A joint St. Lucie County, City of Fort Pierce stormwater project retrofitting an existing drainage system that provides treatment for a 1,242 acre urbanized drainage basin. This project
will provide a treatment train which includes six different Best Management Practices (BMP’s) over the 60 acres of land. The treatment train includes (1) enlarging the size of the stormwater treatment lake; (2) relocation of the weir and filling of the existing intake and by-pass canal; (3) construction of an alum treatment system; (4) enhancing littoral zones along the lake shoreline; (5) installation of floating vegetative mats; and (6) construction of bio-swales.
In addition to the stormwater improvements, recreational elements were included within the project. The construction includes a walking trail that encircles the lake, including two pedestrian bridges crossing over open water, a pervious paver parking lot, littoral zone plantings, and upland landscaping.
