The City of Fort Pierce Begins Citrus Overpass Bridge Repair

The City of Fort Pierce begins revitalization efforts on Citrus Overpass Bridge from Half Cent Surtax funds. Rehabilitation of the overpass began earlier this week and is anticipated to be completed by April 2021. Commuters can expect overpass accessibility to be restricted to two-lanes, one westbound, and one eastbound for most of the duration of the repair activities.

About the Project:
The 63-year-old bridge, constructed in 1957, was long overdue for repair and restoration and is one of the proposed projects from the Half Cent Surtax. Inspections of the bridge identified damage in the concrete spalling resulting from the natural deterioration of the structural materials utilized in the original build.  Repairs over the years were warranted to preserve the structural integrity of the bridge and prevent further degradation which could have resulted in more costly repairs. The total construction cost of this project is $1,062,928 and is funded with $662,928 of the Half-Cent Surtax proceeds and $400,000 from the City’s General Fund.

Half-Cent Sales Tax:
Thanks to voters, the City of Fort Pierce will undertake several backlogged projects, city-wide, which includes nearly 42 miles of road resurfacing, water quality improvements such as phase II of Moore’s Creek Linear Park, and upgrades to Citrus Overpass Bridge.
