While the track for Hurricane Irma has shifted west, Fort Pierce is still under both a hurricane warning and storm surge warning. The City of Fort Pierce is urging residents to remain vigilant and stay informed about the potential impacts to our area.

As of Saturday morning, here is the latest information:

Evacuation

Given the current track, evacuation orders have been modified for residents on North and South Hutchinson Island, in low-laying areas and those living in manufactured homes. There is now a voluntary evacuation order in effect for those residents. City officials are urging residents to heed the evacuation orders since the forecast track is ever-changing and uncertain. Visit: http://www.stlucieco.gov/home/showdocument?id=5972 for an evacuation zone map.

South Bridge (Seaway Drive)

South Bridge will remain open only to Hutchinson Island residents and business-owners with proof of residency or ownership. While residents and business owners with identification may be allowed on to the Island at this time, South Bridge will be closed once conditions are deemed too dangerous to safely cross.  Anyone still on the Island after the bridge closes does so at the risk of being shut off from emergency services until the bridge is reopened.

Garbage

Garbage collection has been suspended until after the storm. Residents are reminded to secure their trash and recycling carts before the storm as well as any other debris that can become projectiles in wind events.
