[ARCHIVED] US Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce to host Open House on Friday, May 26

US Coast Guard Station Ft. Pierce will once again open its doors to the public  to wrap up National Safe Boating Week, May 20-26, 2017. The event is scheduled for Friday, May 26 from 11:00-3:00, in cooperation with local law enforcement and rescue agencies.


This 1st annual event will include tours of the various Coast Guard Response boats and cutters, local police marine and land units, fire and rescue units, and demonstrations.


Demonstration Teams and times are:

Noon, St. Lucie County K-9 unit.

1pm,  St. Lucie County Remote Operated Vessel (ROV), dive units.

2pm,  Martin County Ocean Rescue.


The US Coast Guard Auxiliary will also be on hand to provide educational material that will highlight the importance of safe boating practices including vigilance on the water. Finger printing for kids and Coastie the robotic Safety Boat will be on hand as well.


U.S. Coast Guard statistics show that drowning was the reported cause of death in 75% of recreational boating fatalities in 2015, and that 85 percent of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets.


U.S Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce is located at 900 Seaway Drive, Ft.Pierce, Florida. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be available for purchase from the Treasure Coast Chief Petty Officers’ Association.


Remember, boating season never ends on the Treasure Coast.
