Starting Tuesday, March 7, 2017, work will begin to construct a westbound Orange Avenue turn lane to northbound U.S. 1 in the City of Fort Pierce. In order to construct the turn lane, westbound Orange Avenue between U.S. 1 and Depot Drive will undergo an around-the-clock closure for approximately one month. Motorists should detour via 2nd Street to Avenue A or Citrus Avenue. To accommodate northbound traffic during this detour, North Depot Drive will be converted to a one-way road. Both entrances to the city parking garage will remain accessible during construction. While the Orange Avenue entrance will remain open, motorists will only be able to make a left turn onto Orange Avenue when exiting. There will be "left turn only" signage in place to notify motorists. The sidewalk on the north side of Orange Avenue between U.S. 1 and Depot Drive will also be closed around-the-clock. Pedestrians will be detoured to the sidewalk on the south side of Orange Avenue at U.S. 1 and Depot Drive. While this work is ongoing, pedestrian and street access to businesses will be maintained at all times.See attached flyer that contains this information, as well as a detour graphic.
